Decade Dash and More!

We had so much fun running today!  Thank you all for supporting us.  It was a great time!

This week we had fun in math talking about patterns.  We have talked about growing and repeating patters.  We are becoming experts at naming patterns too!
In science we continued to talk qabout pumpkins.  We learned all abou tht parts of a pumpkin this week.  Did you know that a pumpkin can float?
In writing we have worked on events in our stoies.  We also had fun talking about how characters in a story can change.

Our word wall words this week were brown and on.  Ask your child to find these words in a book or a newspaper this week.

Next week we will start our study of spiders.  Hopefully you will learn all kinds of great facts about spiders from your kiddos.

Here are some facts about our class pumpkin!

Pumpkins!

First off we want to say a HUGE THANK YOU! to the Spears PTA.  Look at all of the books on cd that we received from them.  Thank you all for joining and supporting PTA so that they can provide such wonderful resources for our classroom!

Look how AWESOME we looked in our orange on Thursday!

This week in math we worked on creating and extending patterns.  We have also been talking about growing patterns.  Your kiddos are professionals at naming those patterns using letters when they see them!
During literacy time we have been talking about syllables, rhyming, and vowels/consonants.  Ask you child to name rhyming words or tell you how many syllables are in words while you are riding in the car this week.  I know you will be impressed with all that they know!
In writing workshop we have learned that all great stories have characters, settings, and a major event.  It has been fun to listen to your children read their fabulous stories and to point out these things.
In science we have learned about the life cycle of pumpkins.  We have talked about how it is similar and different from the life cycle of an apple.
Don't forget that Decade Dash packets are due Tuesday, October 18.
Picture Day is next Wednesday.  If you are ordering pictures it would really help me out if you would send in the envelope before Wednesday.  Kindergarten are usually the first group up and having the envelopes before time will help us be organized and ready when it is our turn.
The Decade Dash will be next Friday.  We will run from 11:45-12:30.

10 Apples up on Top!

First off, I want to thank you all for making the time to come in and chat with me about your child's progress so far in Kindergarten.  It was great to hear about the progress that you have seen from your child.  They are a wonderful bunch and I know we are on track for a fantastic year!
This past week we finished up out study of apples.  In math and science this week we sorted and graphed apples by their different attributes.  We even saw how many "apples" (beanbags) we could balance on our heads and graphed the results.
On Friday we made homemade applesauce.  It was so much fun!  Each kiddo got to peel their own apple to put in the pot!
We also painted the year of the apple tree.  We have learned about the life cycle of the apple tree and what it looks like each season.
Here are some pictures of us enjoying our applesauce.
It smelled so good throughout the day.
It tasted so warm and cinnamon-y!

This coming week we will start our study of pumpkins.  We will compare the life cycle of an apple to that of a pumpkin.  We will add the word "see" to our word wall.  We will also be working on our math assessments for our report cards.
