Valentines

Valentines
Valentines Day is quickly approaching. This is such a fun event in Kindergarten. Here are a few ways that you can help this be a fun way to help your child tell their friends they care for them.

1. Buy your cards early! It will take some time for your child to write their friends names on the cards. Buy them early and start writing 2 or 3 a night. This will lessen the stress of having to write them all. This will also keep it fun!

2. Let your child write the names. This is a great way for young writers to practice writing. Emphasize capitalizing one letter in their name and one in their friends names. This will also help your child when they go to deliver their Valentines. If it is in their own writing it will be easier for them to read it.

3. Read each of the cards as you write them. What a fun way to incorporate reading into this fun event.

Writing Valentines is a great way for children to learn the importance of reading and writing. This is a wonderful practical way for children to see that writing is used in daily "none school" ways as well as school. It will also help them to understand that writing can be used for many different purposes.

A letter as well as a class list will be coming home next Tuesday. We ask that you please make sure that there is a card for each child in the class. I wanted to let you know now in case you wanted to go card shopping this weekend.
