We made cool counting by 10 caterpillar hats.

Can you believe that Zero the Hero came to visit us?

Community Helpers

This week we learned all about community helpers.  We learned that community helpers are people that live an work in our community.  We had some great community helpers come to school today.
We had doctors, police men, babysitters
 businessmen,
 architects, veterinarians, teachers
 dentist
firefighters, baseball payers and ice skaters.

What great careers!

This week we also learned some great things about magnets.  Ask your child what they learned!

Winter

We had lots of fun playing draw my rock.  We hid our rocks behind our backs and describe it to our friend.  Our friend had to draw our rock.  This game helped us learn about rock properties.  We had to use our good description words for our friends.

We have also been building so really cool structures in the block center.  Check them out!
WE are becoming really great writers in the dry erase center.

computers are lots of fun too!

And of course art

Rocks

We want to thank our wonderful PTA for bringing the High Tech High Touch program to our classroom last week.  We really loved having a real scientist visit us and teach us about rocks.
We got to mine for real gemstones.
We search hard through our bowls and dug up all kinds of cool stones.

We rinsed them off in the "river".
We took our rocks back to our classroom and sorted and classified them according to luster, color and shape.

We had to look very carefully at each rock to decide which group it belonged in.

We tested the gemstones to see if they were magnetic.

We also go to see if each gemstone had a "secret" inside of it.

The secret was limestone.
If the rock had limestone it would bubble in the vinegar.
On Friday afternoon we made chalk!  It was lots of messy fun!
We stirred and stirred and stirred.
Then we each put some into our cupcake cup.

And this week we will get to write with our special rocks!

What a fun week of learning about rocks!

Run Run Run As fast as you Can!!!

What an exciting week.  Last week we made a class Gingerbread Man.  While Ms. A was out the Gingerbread Man, Gingy-Alvin RAN AWAY!!!!  Can you believe it?
This week we received and email with theses pictures attached of those silly gingerbread men running all around the school.

 They visited the office.

And had some fun in the library!
We made some really cool gingerbread men books and wrote about our favorite parts of different versions of the story.
WE had to use our math thinking and use words such as largest, longer, biggest, rectangle, circle, and oval to be able to construct our gingerbread men correctly.

It took hard work but they turned out beautiful!
WE also got to make read gingerbread.  We added the mix, butter, eggs, and water.
 We mixed...
 patted...

and sculpted...

Ms. A took them home to back them but...
some were smashed a little bit to much and started smoking in her oven.  So we enjoyed some store bought cookies instead.

We were reading a story on Friday afternoon and...
Ms. Bowers came in the door and told us of something strange the she saw in the hallway

It was our class gingerbread man's dad
He told us he was searching for Gingy too!
The in came Mrs. Trahan and she found GINGY!!!!
He was eating cookies in the library.  Can you believe it.  Good thing we found him.  Ms. A will be calling his dad to come and get him.  What and exciting week!
